NexStar 6SE Accessories: The Complete Guide
The NexStar 6SE is a 150mm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain on a single-arm GoTo mount: 1500mm focal length, one 25mm eyepiece (60x), a 1.25" star diagonal, and an 8 AA battery pack. It’s a very capable scope, but a few accessories make a much bigger difference than others.
Each guide below is written for the 6SE specifically, with its own numbers: magnifications at 1500mm, the 1.25" field limit, the SE mount’s payload, and its 12V power needs.
| Aperture / focal length | 150mm / 1500mm (f/10) |
|---|---|
| Stock eyepiece(s) | 25mm (60x) |
| Useful magnification | ~21x to 300x (Celestron lists up to 354x); usually 250x or less in practice |
| Widest field with 1.25" eyepieces | 1.03° |

Where to start
- Power first. AA batteries drain fast, and owners commonly trace slewing and alignment errors to low voltage. A steady 12V supply is the cheapest fix for a whole class of “my 6SE won’t align” problems.
- Then two or three eyepieces. A low-power eyepiece for finding and a 9mm or 7mm for planets covers most of what the scope can show.
- Then the specialist upgrades only if you need them: a planetary camera, the f/6.3 reducer for wider views, StarSense for faster alignment, or a wedge for longer exposures.
